Bergen County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center
Founded in 1979, the Bergen County Animal Shelter is a county-operated no-kill facility serving 49 towns across Bergen County. It received its no-kill designation under the Asilomar Accords in 2015.
With capacity for 90 dogs and 350 cats, the shelter provides temporary housing for stray, surrendered, and confiscated animals while working tirelessly to find them permanent homes. Pet adoption applications can be submitted at petadoptions@bergencountynj.gov.
Sustainable Barks sources toys directly from their inventory and donates 100% of profits to support their life-saving mission.
Humane Society of Bergen County
The Humane Society of Bergen County is a private, non-profit no-kill organization that receives no government funding — operating entirely on donations, adoptions, and community support.
Their dedicated team works every day to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need, while also operating the "Kindness Korner" retail store where 100% of proceeds feed and care for their sheltered animals.
